squares baby quilt
I finished the squares quilt last week and finally got some pictures. This is another original design of mine, in one of my favorite color combinations. It's 40" square, backed with a single piece of the blue/orange fabric you can see in the second-largest squares on the front.
I'm very pleased with how this one came out, and plan on making another quilt in the same pattern but a totally different range of fabrics soon. I'm working on writing up the pattern now, so I'm hoping to have that available in the near future!

design time: half square triangle mini-quilt
Now that I have made several quilts based on square and rectangular pieces, I decided to take the next step and figure out triangles. Using a charm pack of Plume by Tula Pink, some plain white cotton, and Elizabeth Hartman's triangle block tutorial, I jumped into half square triangles yesterday. These pieces were very quick to put together, and are so much fun to play with.
The only problem now is, there are so many ways to arrange them, I can't decide what I want to do! These are only four of a huge number of possible variations. I like the bullseye and zigzag versions the best. But I need to play more before I decide.

so much to do, who knows how much time
I'm 34 weeks pregnant today, which means I have 6 weeks to go until my due date, but only 3 weeks left until I'm considered "full term" (Pip would not be considered premature & I am OK to deliver at the birth center). Otto was born at 39 weeks and Henry was born at 41 weeks, so I'm pretty sure I have at least 5 weeks, but you never know with these babies.
I have a lot of stuff I want to get done in that time frame. Mostly for my own reference, but also for anyone else who is curious, here's what I'd like to accomplish before Pip shows up:
A list (need to get this stuff done!)
finish Pip's redwork quilt 9done 4/29!)
finish the squares quilt (done 4.22!)
photograph both quilts
wash/sort all newborn baby stuff
get newborn carseat out of storage and ready to install
finish/submit proposal for Hoopla
B list (would really like to get this stuff done)
finish my American flag
secret grunions for someone special
write patterns for redwork and squares quilts
finish more embroidery patterns
finish up amigurumis
assemble 2-4 blocks for my cathedral windows quilt
C list (super extra credit/if I go overdue)
write patterns for autobahn and dog quilts
write patterns for amigurumis
get my online shop up
mei-tai carrier for Pip
doll quilt for Amelia's birthday

Today we transplanted our cucumber and tomato seedlings (started inside) out into the raised beds, and we found some teeny-tiny beet seedlings (started outside) just poking out to say hello!
I'm very excited about this year's garden, we are growing:
beets (five kinds!)
carrots
snow peas
lettuce/greens (two kinds)
tomatoes (roma and beefsteak)
cucumbers (pickling and slicing)
pumpkins (two kinds)
squash
green beans
cabbage
corn
And that doesn't include fruit! Four out of five of our trees blossomed this spring, so I'm really hoping we'll have apples and cherries in addition to the apricots. The blueberry bushes are still really small, but they may produce as well. And of course, there's the blackberry tangle growing in the English Laurel.

Went back to Eddo Burger to try the breakfast menu. Cara is such a sweetheart, her deep fryer was acting up so she made special churro pancakes for the boys.

the best thing ever
I try not to make this blog too much about pictures of my kids, but oh man, they figured this out yesterday and spent like 45 minutes riding around in circles on the driveway and it just made me soooo happy.
I'm so pleased that they can really play together independently now. I have high hopes for when the baby is born... I know there is going to be upheaval and negative reactions to having this new creature thrown into their routines, but I think that we'll be able to handle it well, since they have each other as playmates. When Henry was born, poor Otto just had to wait for mama's attention. But this time, I'll be able to suggest that they go play something together while they wait for me to deal with whatever baby needs are happening (fingers crossed).

autobahn quilt
I finally got around to taking some better pictures of the quilt I made for Otto. It's 54" x 72", most of the fabrics were picked by Otto, and the quilt is my own original design. This was the first quilt I did free-motion machine quilting on, and I think it came out really well! I'm going to be working on writing up the pattern for this one, and I hope to have it available soon.

redwork quilt top
Got the top for the redwork quilt finished yesterday! Next up is the quilting (not quite sure how I'm going to do it, but I have a couple of ideas), and then binding (using the same small polka dot at the corners of the triplane). This is shaping up really nicely! It's a bit big for a baby quilt (47" square), but I want it to last a while before it's outgrown.
Better bigger.
